第11回　英検3級ライティング：便利な表現とテンプレートの応用

前回は、ライティングでよくある文法ミスと見直しの方法を学びました。

今回は、さまざまな質問に対応できるように、便利な表現と基本テンプレートの応用を練習します。

テンプレートは、そのまま丸暗記するだけではなく、質問に合わせて内容を入れ替えて使うことが大切です。

1. 基本テンプレートを確認する

まずは、最も基本的な形を確認しましょう。

I like [答え] better.
I have two reasons.
First, [理由1].
Second, [理由2].

例：

I like summer better.
I have two reasons.
First, I can swim in the sea.
Second, I can enjoy summer festivals.

この形を使えば、好みを尋ねる質問に答えやすくなります。

2. 「どちらが好きか」に答える表現

Which do you like better, A or B?

この質問には、次の形で答えます。

I like A better.

例：

Which do you like better, cats or dogs?

I like dogs better.
I have two reasons.
First, dogs are friendly.
Second, I can play with them in the park.

「I like dogs.」だけでも意味は伝わりますが、betterを使うと質問により正確に答えられます。

3. 「何をしたいか」に答える表現

What do you want to do in the future?

この質問には、次の表現が使えます。

I want to be a …
I want to work as a …
I want to …
I would like to …

例：

I want to be a doctor.
I have two reasons.
First, I want to help sick people.
Second, I am interested in science.

職業を答える場合は、次の表現も便利です。

• a teacher
• a doctor
• a nurse
• a cook
• a police officer
• a soccer player
• a scientist

4. 「好きな活動」に答える表現

What do you like to do after school?

次の形を使います。

I like to [動詞] after school.

または、

I enjoy [動詞ing] after school.

例：

I like to read books after school.
I have two reasons.
First, I can learn many new things.
Second, reading is relaxing.

注意点として、enjoyの後ろは動詞のing形にします。

I enjoy playing tennis.
I enjoy watching movies.

「I enjoy play tennis.」とはしません。

5. 「どのくらいの頻度か」に答える表現

How often do you …?

頻度を表す副詞を使います。

• always：いつも
• usually：たいてい
• often：よく
• sometimes：ときどき
• rarely：めったに〜ない
• never：決して〜ない

例：

How often do you read books?

I often read books.
I have two reasons.
First, I can learn new things.
Second, books are interesting.

頻度を具体的に表すこともできます。

I read books every day.
I play soccer twice a week.
I visit my grandparents on weekends.

6. 「賛成か反対か」に答える表現

Do you agree with this idea?

賛成の場合：

I agree with this idea.
I have two reasons.

反対の場合：

I do not agree with this idea.
I have two reasons.

例：

I agree with this idea.
I have two reasons.
First, students can learn many things.
Second, they can spend time with their friends.

反対する場合も、理由を2つ書きます。

I do not agree with this idea.
First, students need time to relax.
Second, they need to spend time with their families.

7. 「理由」を始める便利な表現

理由を示す表現はいくつかあります。

基本表現

• First, …
• Second, …
• Also, …
• Another reason is that …

理由を説明する表現

• This is because …
• The reason is that …
• Because …

例：

First, I like it because it is fun.
Second, the reason is that I can learn many things.

英検3級では、まず First と Second を使いこなせば十分です。

8. 追加情報を加える表現

理由を詳しくするには、次の表現が役立ちます。

「〜できる」

I can learn English.
I can help my family.
I can make new friends.

「〜する必要がある」

I need to study English.
I need to practice every day.

「〜することが大切だ」

It is important to exercise.
It is important to help other people.

「〜するのは簡単だ」

It is easy to use.
It is easy to understand.

「〜するのは難しい」

It is difficult to learn.
It is difficult for me to use.

9. 便利なつなぎ表現

文と文の関係を分かりやすくするために、つなぎ表現を使いましょう。

表現	意味	例文
and	そして	I read books and watch movies.
because	なぜなら	I like it because it is fun.
so	だから	It was raining, so I stayed home.
but	しかし	It is difficult, but it is useful.
also	また	It is fun. It is also useful.
for example	例えば	I like sports. For example, I play tennis.

一つの文に多くの接続語を入れる必要はありません。意味のつながりが分かりやすくなるように使いましょう。

10. テンプレートを質問別に使い分ける

好みを尋ねる質問

I like [答え] better.
I have two reasons.
First, [理由1].
Second, [理由2].

習慣を尋ねる質問

I usually [動詞].
I have two reasons.
First, [理由1].
Second, [理由2].

将来の夢を尋ねる質問

I want to be a [職業].
I have two reasons.
First, [理由1].
Second, [理由2].

賛否を尋ねる質問

I agree with this idea.
I have two reasons.
First, [理由1].
Second, [理由2].

質問の種類を判断して、最初の一文を変えましょう。

11. テンプレートを使うときの注意点

テンプレートは便利ですが、どの質問にも同じ文を使えばよいわけではありません。

たとえば、「How often do you play sports?」と聞かれているのに、

I like sports better.

と答えると、質問に合っていません。

質問に合わせて、次の部分を変えましょう。

• 好み：I like …
• 習慣：I often …
• 希望：I want to …
• 意見：I agree …
• 頻度：I … every day.

12. 言い換え表現を増やす

同じ表現を繰り返さないために、簡単な言い換えを覚えましょう。

「楽しい」

• It is fun.
• I enjoy it.
• I can have a good time.

「役に立つ」

• It is useful.
• It helps me.
• It is good for my studies.

「新しいことを学べる」

• I can learn many new things.
• I can get new information.
• I can learn about different things.

「友達と時間を過ごせる」

• I can spend time with my friends.
• I can enjoy it with my friends.
• I can do it together with my friends.

ただし、無理に難しい表現へ言い換える必要はありません。自信のある表現を正確に使うことを優先しましょう。

13. 例題で練習する

問題1

Which do you like better, summer or winter?

解答例

I like winter better.
I have two reasons.
First, I can enjoy skiing.
Second, I like snow.

問題2

What do you want to do in the future?

解答例

I want to be a teacher.
I have two reasons.
First, I like helping children.
Second, I enjoy studying English.

問題3

Do you agree that students should read books every day?

解答例

I agree with this idea.
I have two reasons.
First, students can learn many new things.
Second, reading books is useful for their studies.

14. 今日の練習

次の質問に答えてみましょう。

Which do you like better, reading books or watching TV?

書き出し：

I like … better.
I have two reasons.
First, …
Second, …

解答例：

I like reading books better.
I have two reasons.
First, I can learn many new things.
Second, reading books is relaxing.

次の質問にも挑戦しましょう。

What do you like to do on weekends?

解答例：

I like to play basketball on weekends.
I have two reasons.
First, it is good for my health.
Second, I can play with my friends.
